The Story of the Hen that laid the golden egg

Once upon a time, in a small village, lived a poor farmer with his wife. Their life was modest, and they were content with the little they had. They owned a hen, which was their only source of income as it laid an egg every day. They would sell these eggs in the market to earn their livelihood.

One day, to their surprise, the hen laid a golden egg. They couldn’t believe their eyes. They took it to the town and sold it for a good price. The next day, the hen laid another golden egg, and this continued day after day. The couple was overjoyed. Their life changed overnight. They became wealthy and prosperous.

However, with wealth came greed. The farmer thought, “If the hen can lay a golden egg every day, then it must have a treasure of gold inside it.” He became impatient and wanted all the gold at once. His wife tried to reason with him, explaining that they were already getting more than they needed. But the farmer was blinded by his greed.

One day, he decided to kill the hen and get all the eggs together. His wife pleaded with him not to do so, but he didn’t listen. He killed the hen, only to find that there was no gold inside. He was left with a dead hen and no golden eggs.

The farmer regretted his decision but it was too late. He realized his mistake of being greedy and impatient. He understood that he had killed the goose that laid the golden eggs and had lost his steady income. The couple went back to their old life of hardship and struggle.

The story of the hen and the golden egg teaches us the moral that greed leads to disaster. It’s better to be content with what we have rather than being greedy for more. Patience and contentment are virtues that lead to peace and prosperity. This simple tale is a reminder that one’s greed can lead to one’s downfall. It’s a lesson we should all remember
