Moral story for kids : The Boy who cried Wolf

In a quaint village nestled at the foothills, there resided a young shepherd boy whose daily routine involved tending to his flock of sheep on the lush hillside. This particular area, however, harboured a notorious wolf known for menacingly preying on the unsuspecting sheep grazing there. The villagers, always vigilant and united, were prepared to swiftly come to the aid of anyone in distress.

The shepherd boy, well aware of the villagers' willingness to assist, found himself occasionally bored during the long hours of watching his sheep graze. Seeking amusement, he devised a mischievous plan. One day, as the sun painted the sky with hues of warmth, the boy cried out with urgency, "Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is raiding my sheep!" Alarmed by his distress call, the villagers rushed to the hillside to confront the perceived threat. However, upon reaching the spot, they discovered there was no wolf in sight. The boy, seizing the opportunity, couldn't contain his laughter at the villagers' puzzled and irritated expressions. Annoyed, they admonished him for his false alarm and returned to their daily tasks.

Undeterred by the villagers' warning, the mischievous shepherd decided to repeat his prank. Once again, he shouted, "Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is raiding my sheep!" Obliging the call for help, the villagers rushed to the hillside for the second time, only to find themselves deceived once more. The boy revelled in their frustration, laughing heartily at the situation. This time, the villagers scolded him sternly, emphasizing the importance of not raising false alarms.

As the day unfolded, the mischievous shepherd, undeterred by the villagers' warnings, chose to play his prank once more. With a sense of amusement, he cried out, "Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is raiding my sheep!" This time, however, the villagers, suspecting another false alarm, refrained from responding. They believed the boy was merely seeking amusement at their expense.

As the evening descended, a peculiar silence enveloped the village. The absence of the shepherd and his flock became a cause for concern. The villagers, puzzled and worried, ascended the hill to investigate. To their dismay, they found the shepherd boy in tears, surrounded by the scattered remains of his flock. When questioned about his earlier distress call, he explained through sobs that the wolf had indeed come, but this time, no one had responded to his plea for help.

The villagers, remorseful yet firm, recounted their previous encounters with the shepherd's pranks. They had assumed the third call was another jest, not realizing the dire consequences. The shepherd boy, now faced with the harsh reality of the wolf's attack, learned a valuable lesson about the consequences of deception and the importance of trust within a community.

Moral of the story : Once a liar, always a liar. No one believes a liar, even when the latter is speaking the truth.
