Down below, a big, grumpy crocodile named Chomper watched Chimpu with hungry eyes. "My dear son," she grumbled to her little one, "I want to eat that monkey's heart. Go catch him!"

The little crocodile was scared, but he had to obey his mother. He swam up to the tree and called out, "Oh, wise Chimpu, there are the sweetest fruits on a faraway island. I'll carry you there on my back."

Chimpu was smart. He knew the crocodile was up to no good, but he pretended to be interested. "How kind of you," he said. "But I can't swim. What about my heart?"

The little crocodile wasn't very smart. He said, "Don't worry, we'll get your heart later."

Chimpu hopped onto the crocodile's back, and they started swimming. When they were in the middle of the river, Chimpu pretended to be scared. "Oh no!" he cried. "I forgot my heart! We have to go back!"

The silly crocodile believed him and turned around. As soon as they reached the riverbank, Chimpu jumped off the crocodile's back and climbed up the tree, laughing.

Chomper was angry, but she couldn't catch Chimpu. She tried many times, but the monkey was always too clever.

One day, Chomper came up with a new plan. She knew the monkey loved the ripe fruits on a nearby island. So, she hid under a big rock in the middle of the river.

When the monkey jumped onto the rock to reach the island, Chomper jumped out and tried to grab him. But Chimpu was quick. He jumped onto the crocodile's head and then onto the riverbank, and climbed up a tree.

Chomper was so embarrassed. She realized she could never catch the clever monkey. From that day on, she left the monkey alone. And Chimpu continued to live happily in his tree, safe from the hungry crocodile.
