People enjoy this festival by doing different activities like singing, dancing and flying kites. The importance of sesame and jaggery has been told on this day. When is Makar Sankranti celebrated?

                                                          Makar Sankranti is celebrated in the joy of Uttarayan of the Sun, which is a very important festival of the Hindu Religion. This festival is mainly dedicated to Lord Sun. T. In the coming year i.e. 2023, Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on 15 January. Makar Sankranti is celebrated when the Sun enters Capricorn from Sagittarius or Uttarayan from Dakshinayan in the month of Posh. The transition of Sun from one zodiac sign to another is called Makar Sankranti. In fact, on January 14, 2023, at 8:21 pm, the Sun will leave Sagittarius and enter Capricorn, so Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on January 15 this year. 


Makar Sankranti, one of the major festivals of Hinduism, is celebrated on the Uttarayan of the Sun. Makar Sankranti is directly related to the geography of the earth and the position of the sun. The festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated on the same day whenever the Sun comes on the Tropic of Capricorn. When the Sun comes on the Tropic of Capricorn, it is the month of Pausha. Makar Sankranti is celebrated on January 14 or January 15 of the month of Pausha. Because on this day the Sun enters the Tropic of Capricorn. At the same time, sometimes this festival can also come on 12-13 January.


This perfection depends on when the Sun leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn. According to mythological beliefs, one day of the gods is completed in the six months of the sun of Uttarayan. Whereas the six months of the Sun in Dakshinayan, their one night is completed. At the same time, the belief of the people is connected that those who sacrifice their life in the sun of Uttarayan attain salvation. On the other hand, on death in the sun of the south, one has to take rebirth. This is the reason why the Uttarayan of the Sun is also said to be the way to attain salvation in the world. On this day fasting, havan, worship, bathing in holy rivers and charity are done by the people.

The festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated in the name of Sankranti or Khichdi in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bihar. Whereas in other parts of Bihar except for West Bihar, this festival is celebrated in the name of Til Sankranti. Whereas in Gujarat it is celebrated in the name of Uttarayan. Along with Gujarat, it is also popular in some parts of Rajasthan by the name of Uttarayan.In South India, it is celebrated in the name of Pongal
